2011 Avanti Fund Scholarship Recipients

Posted on March 13, 2012

For Immediate Release – July 25th, 2011

Conn-Selmer, Inc., along with Laura and Bickford Brannen, are pleased to announce that a total of seven deserving students were chosen to receive the 2011 Avanti Fund Scholarship. The Avanti Fund Music Education Scholarship was awarded to Candace Hamar, Kavin Ley and Steven Skolnik, who will each receive $2,000 towards their tuition costs to pursue their Bachelor degrees in Music Education. Also receiving $1,000 to become more competitive in their respective fields, are Avanti Fund Conn-Selmer Employee Scholarship winners Hayley Clay, Courtney Cromas, Laura Gentry and Jacob Vollmar.

"These students understand the importance of keeping music education in our school systems to help young kids develop leadership skills and a sense of self-discipline. Music has the ability to help prepare students for high pressure situations such as a job interview, all through focused practice or performing a solo on a stage," says Amy Pribulick, Director of Product Marketing of Flutes at Conn-Selmer, Inc. Kavin Ley of Avilla, Indiana writes "Through the leadership, teamwork, self-discipline, courage, composure, pride, dependability, and other skills, students learn abilities that can help benefit their lives and help them grow into successful member of society." Candace Hamar of Portland, Oregon points out that music education "offers an incredibly diverse range of possibilities, allowing teachers to reach students in multiple ways. Music is also unique in its ability to reach special needs students, offering students who have difficulties with social interaction and speech a new way to express themselves."

The Avanti Fund was established in 2009 by Conn-Selmer, Inc., in conjunction with master flute-makers Laura and Bickford Brannen. Says Mr. Brannen, "The purpose of these scholarships is very simple. It is a way of thanking the Conn-Selmer staff and our customers for all they have done to make Conn-Selmer the national leader in band instrument manufacturing." More information on these scholarships can be found on the Avanti website www.avantiflutes.com/scholarships or by contacting Amy Pribulick at (574) 523-0606.
